Grandparenting with a Purpose: Effective Ways to Pray for your Grandchildren
A year ago, I dreamed of Millions of Praying Grandparents who would commit to praying intentionally and regularly for their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their parents. I want to share my dream/passion with you because I believe you, too, share my concern for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up in this broken, tumultuous world we live in today.
I have been on the staff of the Christian Grandparenting Network since 2007. The Christian Grandparenting Network (CGN) mission is to mobilize grandparents worldwide to pray daily for their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and parents. In Christian Living Today, a magazine for senior adults, Editor Randy Swanson, wrote a few years ago, “The role of grandparenting is becoming more important than anyone would ever have imagined. The rescue of our culture may well rest on the shoulders of today’s grandparents.”
We know the enemy wants our children; he wants to pull them away from us, their faith, and the one true God. We also know that Satan is devious and tries to draw our grandchildren away in various ways: impulsions, distractions, and deceptiveness.
When we pray to God, asking for our children to be safeguarded from Satan, we should remember that we aren’t praying to a distant, uninterested God. No! We’re praying to the I AM, who loves our children more than we do and values their souls more than we even realize.
There is an urgency for the power of prayer to keep our grandchildren and parents’ hearts and minds from falling captive to the enemy’s deception and lies. We are engaged in a spiritual battle that requires the spiritual weapon of prayer.
Our Grandchildren are our primary mission field. Can you imagine the impact MILLIONS ofGrandparents committed to Intentionally praying for their grandchildren can have on the world? Perhaps at no time in history is a call for intentional prayer more urgently needed than today.
