Recently, in our small group Bible study, we were studying James 1:27, where James is telling the Jewish Christians to: “look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” I thought to myself, that is something good to pray for my grandchildren and, of course, myself.
Recognize the needy
James is telling the believers to be generous and help the needy. We can become so busy and self-absorbed that we don’t even notice the needy. When we reach out and help the needy, it is an act of love because the needy cannot repay us. Let’s pray our grandchildren, and we will recognize the needy and help them in their distress.
Media-driven culture is desensitizing our grandchildren
However, he also tells them to keep themselves from being polluted by the world. In this media-driven culture with the television, Internet, video games, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc. it is hard not to be polluted by the ungodly worldly influence. Our media-driven culture is desensitizing our grandchildren, trying to distract and steal them from living for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray for your grandchildren to:
Recognize the deception and pollution of our godless world.
Guard them against the corruption of our godless society.
Keep themselves unspotted and uncontaminated from the evil in the world.
Refuse to let the world corrupt them and keep them unstained by the world.
Additional prayer helps:
I have developed “Thirty-one Scriptures to Pray for Grandchildren.” Many grandparents are using these Scriptures to pray for their grandchildren. Just by joining the mailing list on the right side of this page, you will receive grandparenting blogs and prayer suggestions to pray for your grandchildren regularly. I will send you a free downloadable copy of “Thirty-one Scriptures to Pray for your Grandchildren.”

Love the terminology “being polluted by the world”, for that is precisely what we need to pray about most….that our grandchildren are NOT polluted by this world in which they must live every day. Naming our grandchildren, I have prayed for years: “God, please keep your hedge of protection around______,________,__________, etc., that the evils of this world will not penetrate their hearts and minds.” Just another way to pray the same prayer that you have shared with us above. Thanks, Lillian.
