Our grandchildren are growing up in a self-absorbed, “ME” generation, thinking mostly of themselves and what they want or what benefits them.
One way we can teach them to do good deeds is to participate with them in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Millions of boys and girls around the globe live in difficult deprived circumstances with very little gifts at Christmas. It is an excellent way to expose our grandchildren to helping children who are less fortunate and making a difference in another child’s life at Christmas.
My husband and I taken our granddaughters shopping for items to fill the shoeboxes for many years filling a shoebox with items for a girl their own age. The girls have fun shopping; their enthusiasm blesses us and gives us an opportunity to talk with them about those who are less fortunate. Now the girls are teenagers and they still asked me if we are going to take them shopping for the Christmas shoeboxes again this year.
After shopping, we bring the girls to our home, pack the shoeboxes, and pray for the child who will receive the shoebox. If you pay the donation per box online Samaritan Purse will inform you of the country your shoebox was sent. You can get the needed information on this shoebox ministry at www.samaritanspurse.org.
