When Veteran’s Day is approaching share with your grandchildren about the many people, who have sacrificed for the freedoms our country enjoys. Talk about the members of your family that have served in the military. If your grandchildren know someone who is deployed in the military now, encourage them to pray and reach out to that person by name and their family.
Will you share in the comments what you do with your grandchildren to teach them about Veteran’s Day?
By Lillian Penner
Seven years ago I shared with my granddaughters 6th grade class on Veteran’s Day about her Grandpa Bob who was in the Air Force during the Viet Nam era. Part of Bob’s joy was pulling the props for Bob Hope’s plane when he came to entertain the troupes. I asked the 200 plus students how many of them knew about Bob Hope. To my surprise not one of them knew him. Bob Hope gave up his Christmas holidays for many decades to entertain our servicemen and servicewomen. He lifted their spirits. He is a true American with a heart for others.
Kathy,
Thanks for sharing your story about Grandpa Bob. What a great thing to share with the students.
Blessings,
Lillian Penner
